Meet the Doctor

Salim Shammo, MDBoard-certified interventional cardiologist Dr. Salim Shammo has a very personal reason for deciding to dedicate his professional life to the care of the heart.

“My father died of heart disease when he was just 55 years old,” recalls Shammo. “After that, I always wanted to be a cardiologist, to keep this from happening to other people. To me, it is the most interesting field in medicine.”

Shammo, who received his cardiology training at the University of Illinois, spent the first few years of his cardiology career in academia, serving as Chief of Cardiology at the University of Illinois at Champaign. He practiced in a group setting in Chicago and Milwaukee for several years before deciding, for philosophical reasons, to venture out on his own in 1999. A board-certified interventional cardiologist, Dr. Shammo is now in independent practice in his own office near St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee.
